Title: 4 stages
Size: 91cm x 91cm
Medium: Self-Portrait
Exhibition text:
For my self Portrait I wanted my artist inspiration choice to be very obvious, so when someone saw it they could automatically make the connection to the paint of Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol. I also was inspired by pop art. Because I can identify a lot with that art movement.
Meaning behind the piece:
I wanted the 4 squares to represent the 4 big steps I want to happen in my life or that already happened. They represent my graduations in my education that I want to accomplish. The fist 2 I already accomplished which are my elementary graduation and my Middle school graduation. The bottom two I still need to accomplish, which are my High school graduation and my College graduation. I want to be able to look back at this painting and say "I made it". Not only say "I made it" but be happy with what I accomplished with my life.

Process:
First what I did was decide if I wanted to make the same amount of squares like Warhol did with Marilyn. I was thinking to do 6 but then at the end I decided to make 4 because it had a better meaning behind my piece. When I decided how many to do. I had to think if I wanted to do the same pose Marilyn did or do a different one. I decided to make a similar one but instead of curly hair I made mine with short hair and showing more than my head. I painted my neck and part of my shirt. I wanted to zoom out a little more out of the picture.

Reflection:
I would of liked doing a better job in my shading. I feel like I didn't capture very good my physical characteristics. Which makes it not look like me that much. If I would of referred more to my original picture it would of looked better in my opinion. Also I would of wanted to make the 4 squares look the same just because it would of looked better. For example the bottom squares are smaller than the ones on the top, it would of looked better also if they were all the same. One big error I made was that I left a lot of time pass between square which made them look differently from each other, next time what I plan to do is do one day after day to be more consistent in my painting.
