Title: Trapped within
Medium: UWM Mixed Media
Exhibition text:
I made a cage out of color pencils with the door open to show that school only kills your creativity if you let it to. The open door symbolizes freedom of creating what you have on your mind. You don't have to limit yourself. And the color pencils represent creativity.

Process:
The first thing I did was figure out what type of glue would be best to use with the color pencils. I tried wood glue but the fastest and cleanest way was with the hot glue gun. When I figured that out I had to think of what shape I wanted to do and the easiest way was to do a square, I did 5 rows for each side to not make all the holes big or small. Then I had to cut the tip of every color pencil so that way they could stick with other color pencils, because with only the tips sticking together they fell and didn't stick. For most of the color pencils I had to cut them even more than just the tip to make them all the same size.

Artist Inspiration:
My artist inspiration was Mike Kelley because of all his colorful artwork. I really like bright colors because it catches my eye, and that's why I chose to do it with color pencils instead of regular pencils. He uses objects to make another whole different thing just like I did with my piece.

Reflection:
I think some of the things that I could of done differently would be to make the cage look more like a cage with more color pencils, and also to choose the color pencils in brighter colors. Some of the hardest things to do were to stick the color pencils together straight, also struggled cutting them. Something that went well was that the color pencils were sticking fast.
