Tittle: Day of the dead
Median: Dry point
Exhibition text:
I wanted to do a piece to represent my Mexican culture, and since the day of the dead is a very important/big celebration in Mexico, I did my dry point inspired by that. It's a girl celebrating the day of the death, she has her face painted to honor them.

Artist Inspiration:
My inspiration to do my dry point was Jose Guadalupe Posada's painting, "La Catrina". This painting was specifically made for the day of the dead and since then it has been one of the most popular symbols for that day, that's why I chose this painting, cause I want my dry point to symbolize the same.

Process:
After I found the drawing that I was Inspired by, I started doing sketches of patterns that I could include in the face of the girl. I sketched flowers, swirls, hearts, and spider webs, the traditional drawings of the day of the dead. Then I joined all of the sketches in the face. I drew big hair also, because that's how they traditionally have it in the parades of the day of the dead. I drew it all together and made a dry point out of it.

Reflection:
Some things that I liked about my dry point is how I did a lot of detail in the face, but I should of done the same detail for the hair as well. But the good thing is that all the attention is drawn to the middle of the piece and I think that makes it better. Something that I would do better next time would be to make it bigger so that way more detail can be shown. Zoom in the face to show some tribute to the day of the dead. Something I could of added was 2 more dry points with different face designs to make my idea of day of the death more big, to show the different ways of designing your face for that day.
